'Choose Life' plates sent to motorists in Va.

Neon-yellow "Choose Life" Virginia license plates will appear on roadways as early as this week, making Virginia the 24th state to allow motorists to feature the slogan on state-issued tags.
The state has begun shipping the plates, after Gov. Tim Kaine, a Democrat, signed a bill in March authorizing their production. As of Friday, the state's Department of Motor Vehicles had received 538 applications for the plates, which became available July 1. Texas House Committee Holds Debate on Allowing Choose Life License Plates

Austin, TX (LifeNews.com) -- Under a bill that received a committee debate in the legislature on Thursday, Texas could become the latest state to offer Choose Life license plates. Gov. Rick Perry has been supporting the plates, which could generate significant funds for pregnancy centers based on sales proceeds.
The House Transportation Subcommittee on License Plates did not take a vote on the bill, HB 109, after the hearing.
Rep. Larry Phillips, a Republican, is the sponsor of the bill and 81 legislators have signed on as co-sponsors of it.

License plate seekers suffer 'viewpoint discrimination'

A group of pro-lifers obtained 25,000 signatures on a petition asking the state of Illinois for "Choose Life" license plates, which generate funds to promote adoption throughout the state. Only 800 signatures were required, but Tom Brejcha of the Thomas More Society tells OneNewsNow the secretary of state gave them the runaround.
"They took it to the legislature where our secretary of state referred them, telling them that they couldn't get a plate without legislative approval and, even though they had all these signatures, they couldn't get to first base," he explains.
