Two years ago, the city approved the disputed ordinance, but last year Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) attorneys filed a motion for a preliminary injunction when they asked the judge to allow pro-life activist Mary Kathryn Brown to speak in the restricted area.... Pittsburgh, PA -- A federal judge held a hearing on Wednesday on a local ordinance in Pittsburgh that limits abortion protests there and a pro-life attorney says that unfairly hinders free speech rights. The debate revolves around a 2005 law that restricted access to public areas surrounding abortion businesses. The measure prohibits pro-life advocates from coming within 15 feet of the door of any health care facility, which would include abortion centers.... MORE

For seventy-seven years, the Holmesburg Fish and Game Protective Association has served sportsmen and gun enthusiasts throughout Pennsylvania. However, several months ago, the City of Philadelphia sent notice to the Association that its long existing property lease would not be renewed. If no action is taken, the last remaining shooting range in the City of Philadelphia will be forced to close its doors on January 1, 2008. Please continue to contact Mayor John Street (D) and the members of the City Council to respectfully urge them not to close the door on our Second Amendment rights and to renew the Holmesburg Fish and Game Protective A... One of the most vocal anti-war Democrats in the House of Representatives has apparently changed his tune about the U.S. troop surge in Iraq. In April, Congressman John Murtha (D-Pennsylvania) told CNN "the surge has failed" and "there was no possibility that it was going to work." The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette now reports that Murtha said he saw signs of military progress during a recent trip to... MORE

The Board of Commissioners for the Township of Upper Pottsgrove held a lively discussion on a proposed firearms discharge ordinance. The ordinance would prohibit a person from discharging a firearm within five hundred feet of any dwelling and any other area that the Commissioners determine is inappropriate. Despite our efforts to urge Pottsgrove Commissioners to withdraw this ordinance, the Board of Commissioners have scheduled a third round of discussions for Monday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 1409 Farmington Avenue, Pottstown, PA.... Washington, D.C. - The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) today slammed Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) and his colleagues for purposefully putting up roadblocks and barriers to hinder earmark accountability and reform. According to Congressional Quarterly Weekly, Rep. Murtha’s response to a reporter’s inquiry regarding the difficulty of matching up earmark information in appropriations bills was: “So, you have to work. Tough [expletive].” “Rep. Murtha’s vulgar comments, along with the actions of his party, prove that the new majority is hostile to real reform,” said CCAGW President Tom Schatz. “If this Congress were truly i... MORE
